Geopolitics and advancing technology have combined to make our planet a "small world." We are witnesses to an ever increasing flow of products, services, information and people across national boundries. Today, we are truly entering into the era of the "Global Village." Mastery of a foreign language is acutally becoming an important job skill since over twenty percent (20%) of the U.S. population is expected to work abroad at some time during the next ten (10) years. Increasing prosperity in the United States has led to increasing numbers of Americans travelling abroad to Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America; many of them are the first member of their families to ever travel abroad. As well, America itself is changing as a new influx of immigrants have come from East Africa, Asia, Latin America, and Eastern Europe. Along with their personal belongs, these "New Americans" have brought languages, ideas, attitudes, and cultural behaviors that are unfamiliar to most Americans.
In order to both cope with these changes and have our youth take their place in the mainstream of a more "globalized" society our youth will need to learn the skills and knowledge necessary for successful participation in this ever changing world. The goal of the Foundation is to prepare them for college and careers that will take them across borders and cultures with the attitudes, skills, and knowledge of a global citizen.
